It all started with a 15 year old with a passion....
That’s me on the right — 15 years old with a love for baking, even if the skills hadn’t quite caught up yet. I always enjoyed being in the kitchen. Making my own birthday cakes became an annual challenge I looked forward to.
But it didn’t end there. While most of my friends were focused on Maths and English exams, I was in the kitchen baking brownies and cupcakes. Much to my parents’ frustration, I was more concerned with selling sweet treats at school for £1 than revising.

Why Men Don't Bake?
Six years later, I found myself studying a History degree I wasn’t passionate about. Baking was still always in the back of my mind.
I kept selling cupcakes to my new university friends, still holding onto the dream that this was what I truly wanted to do.
In my final year, I came across an article in Esquire titled “Baking for Men: Why Men Don’t Bake.”
It struck a nerve. It was a clear reminder that society still sees baking as something not masculine enough. But I didn’t let that stop me.
Instead, it inspired my final-year dissertation on gender stereotypes and sparked the idea for this iconic and ironic business name — Men Don’t Bake.

Why did I care so much?
Growing up queer and part of the LGBTQ+ community, I often felt like I didn’t fit the mould. That I wasn’t “manly” enough.
This article echoed those feelings I’d spent years trying to quiet. I had a choice to make: change who I was, or embrace my passion for baking and live fully as myself.
I think you can guess which one I chose.
Men Don’t Bake isn’t just about cakes (though yes, that’s a big part of it). It’s about community. It’s about celebrating authenticity, challenging stereotypes, and creating a space where people can be proud of who they are.

Where are we now?
During the COVID-19 lockdown, I launched this business by posting brownies across the country while working a full-time corporate job.
Today, at 27 years old, Men Don’t Bake is no longer a side hustle; it’s my full-time focus.
We serve cakes and brownies to the communities of London, Essex, Cambridgeshire, and Hertfordshire.
My mission is simple: to build a space where people feel empowered to be themselves, and to celebrate life with every slice of cake that leaves our kitchen.
Thanks for being part of this journey. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
